While working late at the university on Friday, my supervisor passed by the door as he was leaving. "Brain food", he said, as he tossed me a mini Snickers.
As I looked behind me I saw not only a week of more programming than I had ever done in my life but also the deadline I had missed, all the crazy bugs I had inserted in my program, and the time wasted on ill-conceived designs. As I looked forwards, I saw a weekend looming before me with yet more (seemingly endless) programming and testing and finding bugs, and of fixing bugs by creating other bugs which remain hidden for just long enough for me to have forgotten what I had done to bring them about. I took the gift gratefully. It had been a while since I had eaten, though I hadn't noticed.
And it really, genuinely was the tastiest mini Snickers I have ever had.
